Setting up WordTricks for "Terminal Server / Citrix"

WordTricks is designed to run in a "Terminal Server / Citrix" environment.

While it functions the same as on a Workstation, the installation is slightly different. This is mostly due to the need for drive letters and configuration being different.

Steps to Follow:

1. Log into your Terminal or Citrix Server as an Administrator.

2. Locate your WordTricks network installation directory and the ..\Setup sub-directory.

3. If you have a setup key file, run (Merge) the Ghost Installer key file for your firm.
Example: F:\PROGRAMS\WordTricks\Setup\Firm_Key.reg

Note: WordTricks installations less than 2 years old do not require this key.

4. Run (Merge) the workstation silent installation REG file, "Silent.reg".
Example: F:\PROGRAMS\WordTricks\Setup\Silent.reg

5. From the Control Panel, select the "Add New Programs" wizard and run the WordTricks workstation installation program.
-----> Browse to the WordTricks workstation installation folder.
-----> Set the file type for "All Files / *.*"
-----> Choose the workstation installation "WordTricks_Ent_Wks.exe".

Example: F:\PROGRAMS\WordTricks\Setup\WordTricks_Ent_Wks.exe

Note: The previous workstation installations will work as well: WTXInstall9.0.0.exe or WordTricks.exe

6. Proceed with running workstation installation, accepting the license.

7. Change the installation directory to the appropriate local applications drive and path for the local Citrix or Terminal Server.
Example: N:\Program Files\WordTricks.

Note: Do not set the installation to the Network location for WordTricks.

8. Select the "Full Install" and complete the WordTricks installation program, but do not close the Windows Installation Wizard.

9. Run the WordTricks Configuration Utility, "WTX_Configure.exe", preferably from the network Programs sub-directory.
Example: F:\PROGRAMS\WordTricks\Programs\WTX_Configure.exe

10. Set the local workstation path and database to the appropriate local WordTricks installation. (Example above.)

11. Check the option for "This is a test Workstation."

12. Select the "Network Settings" Tab and set the "Network Location of WordTricks" and "Source of Data" appropriately for the WordTricks network installation. As in the example below:

Note: In this example, the Terminal/Citrix server has a drive mapping like a workstation. If not, use a UNC path that is appropriate to address the WordTricks network installation.

13. Select the "Contax Settings" Tab and verify that it is correct.

14. Save the Configuration Settings and Exit.

15. Finish the Windows Installation Wizard and close the Control Panel.

16. Run the WTX_Start.exe program to load the current updates and Database changes.
Example "F:\PROGRAMS\WordTricks\Programs\WTX_Start.exe"

17. Launch Word and verify that WordTricks runs properly, checking each of the main modules.
-----> Launch one of the Letter/Fax/Memo generators,
-----> Test at least one numbering scheme, and
-----> Test the QlickForms library.

A Word About Windows Default User Profile

In the "Terminal Server / Citrix" environment, WordTricks keeps configuration information for all users in the Windows Registry under HKLM, and configuration information for each individual user is kept under HKCU.

When new users log onto the Server, their respective HKCU settings are inherited from the HKLM configuration settings. But the user's settings (HKCU) always take precedent if they exist.

Therefore, putting the user configuration information into the Default Windows Profile is not advised. This makes it more difficult to make wholesale changes to the WordTricks configuration.
