Article: KB-CFGCRR Module: WordTriX.EXE Build: 9.2.0.1182 Summary The WordTricks core ActiveX now automatically detects and repairs several common configuration errors. The Problem WordTricks can use one of two sets of configuration parameters. One set is for the workstation in general and the other is specific to the user. If the user is new to the workstation, the user configuration is inherited from the workstation configuration. But WordTricks always gives preference to the user configuration, if it exists. If a workstation has been imaged or created and WordTricks user configuration information is copied to the Windows Default Profile, that information will be copied to a new user's configuration rather than the workstation configuration. (Because profile creation occurs first.) So, if a firm has changed a server on which WordTricks resides or the workstation image is used in another location, the user configuration information will be incorrect. The Solution WordTricks now checks the validity of the user's configuration, and (finding something wrong) switches to the workstation configuration if it is valid. How does it work? As a user starts WordTricks there are three items that are checked for validity: 1 - The WordTricks network folder must really exists. 2 - The user's ID must be in the WordTricks database. 3 - The local Site number and Serial number are correct. If any of these conditions fail, WordTricks makes the same check using the workstation configuration. If the workstation configuration is valid: The user's configuration is updated with the valid information from the workstation configuration. If the workstation configuration is not valid: WordTricks will continue operation if possible, but will not update the user configuration. If it is not possible, WordTricks will warn the user and then unload itself.
