Clean Document
Word documents have a tendency to collect "baggage" along the way. This is often things like unused paragraph styles, a history of undo commands and all sorts of other historical information. These add size but do little harm.
Often though, this "baggage" is more problematic. This is particularly so if the document (or parts of it) originated in WordPerfect or early versions of Word, or if the document has a long history of automatic paragraph numbering.
And because of the structure of the Native Word Document Format, these documents will become very unpredictable in behavior and many times unstable.
The WordTricks "Clean Document" feature cleans out virtually all of this baggage.
Using the "Clean Document" Feature
![]()
From any saved Word document, click the "Clean Document"
button from the WordTricks toolbar or by pressing keystroke ATL + C.
The following dialog box will appear:

![]()
Select the options desired.
Note: Some options may not be available because the document does not contain them. And some options cannot be unchecked because they are simply listed to let you know what is affected.
![]()
Click OK to proceed. And on the subsequent verification page, click "Yes"
to complete.
Be patient! The process may take a while on a large document. The Clean Document dialog will continue to display the progress.
Important Note: This process replaces
the original document. In case of a failure or there are catastrophic changes
in the document, a backup copy is kept in the C:\Backup folder.
(If the C:\Backup folder cannot be used, these backups are placed in the WordTricks
Tmp folder (usually "C:\Program Files\WordTricks\Tmp"))
